Child Privacy
Overview
What to do when parents want to avoid photos of their child(ren) or learning stories being seen by other parents/guardians at the service.
Discussing options
It is crucial to have an open and clear conversation with the parents/carers to understand their concerns and address these requests. It can also be beneficial to explain to parents the obligations of the service to store documentation on the child's learning/development and assure them of the security of personal information in OWNA.
Implementing a plan
Once you clearly understand the parent's concerns, you can implement a plan to ensure this is consistently carried out. Here are some ways you can implement these plans in OWNA to ensure everyone is satisfied:
1. Add the 'No Posting' icon to the child's profile
- In the child's profile, tick the box for 'No Posting on the App' and click Update Child's Details
- This won't prevent staff from tagging the child, but it will show an icon when the educators are tagging a post to indicate that staff should be aware of avoiding specific details or tagging photos with the child's face

2. Using child tags to convey more information
- Apply child tags to their profile to indicate specific posting or photo restrictions
- Can only be seen by educators in the child's profile in the app
- Not visible to parents
3. Untick 'Show Child's Fullname' in Settings
- This will display all child names to show only first name and last initial
4. Remove the child's profile photo (if any)
- Go to the child's profile and click Reset Image under their profile photo
- This will display their initials instead
5. Tick 'Don't post Birthday on the App' in the child's profile
- This will stop the automated birthday post for the child
6. Avoid tagging the child in group posts
- Create an individual post just for that child and set it to private (padlock icon)
